The topic of introducing sex education in schools is really creating waves among the the teachers as well as the parents but those who r really excited about the whole thing are our new age students, infact their minds r already full of queries which'll put the instructor to shame.A few days back I watched a debate going over the v. same topic with all its benefits & demerits (read benefits 4 students & demerits 4 parents). It's quite a watch & I's dying 2 participate but had 2 console maself by drinking every word of it. It started with the so called "module'" of sex education dat's been issued, one of ma friend also gave a full fledged description in one of his blog. The module consists of 2 figures one of male body & other of female body. Now should we ask them dat wat's the need to draw these sort of diagrames when our science books contain these pictures or basically the picture containing body parts in the class VI itself? A parent described the module as pornographic, though it's a pretty strong word to use but to stress his point ;he's right.Introducing sex education in school is like providing catalyst to an already burning flame.Till now school was the only place(in India) where hanky pankys didn't used to take place(b4 the DPS ,R.K.Puram incident).Wat the govt. has done is just made a panel of sum members who r adamant to modernise our society(by stepping on our tradition, customs) & came up with this module which is full of adult knowledge.----------The next Q arises is the age of a child. In 2day's world where sum pschyo men r raping even 3-4 yr. gals should we start teaching the concept of condoms in these classes 2.NO na.Then? I remember when I's in class VI we used 2 have these seminars(gals only) where all the things about gals related with puberty were discussed & I also remember how much the boys used 2 be restless.Thsy wanted to know wat's happening no matter how.Lets come to class VIth students aged 11----12 yrs. At this level every1 knows wat a gud & bad touch is all about. So wat we need 2 know is the motto behind the idea of introducing sex education in schools. On a bigger level its all about the HIV awareness & STD's but the solution for dat doesn't lies in condoms.I mean come on! in a way we r telling the students to use condoms instead of telling them to abstain from sex at such a tender age.On a remote level its about developing a comfort level among the boys & gals & stay away from things like these in their making years.
A lot need to be said than done.REALLY! Coz first we got to plan then execute.Share ur views which encourage me to write more.
